There can’t be many farmers’ markets or towns blessed with such a fabulous bread maker as Barry Taylor; the fifth generation baker of Alexander Taylor’s Bakery in Strathaven. As always he will have prepared sourdough breads, fluffy morning rolls, focaccia drizzled with oil and crunchy salt flakes, sugary jam doughnuts and crisp baguettes worthy of a place in any french boulangerie. Barry works through the night to ensure the stall is heaving with goodies, the queue says it all!

St Bride’s Poultry will attend with their delicious slow grown chickens for a perfect Sunday Roast dinner. Overton Farm and Butchery have their usual couple of stalls full of what their land has produced, home grown tatties, dirty carrots, beetroot or Clyde Valley Veal and great tasting tender beef. Lochbyre Rare Breed Meat will be fighting off customers desperate to get their hands on the sweet chilli link sausages a banger with a kick made with their rare breed pork. Vanilla Buffets delightful home baking, the famous Irn Bru fudge from Ochill Fudge Pantry who are shipping some in to the Irn Bru factory this week – talk about coals to Newcastle? Great cheese from Island Cheese, award winning Cullen Skink from Fencebay and natural soap from Caurnie Soaperie to steep your feet when you get home after all that shopping!
