Clarkston Farmers’ Market this Saturday 25th May from 9 till 1pm, station Car Park

tomato picThis holiday weekend come along to our farmers’ market for some holiday goodies. The Clyde Valley tomatoes and strawberries are here and really are bursting full of flavour, freshly picked just 25 miles down the road what better way to celebrate British Tomato Week. Overton Farm & Butchery will have loads of both strawberries & tomatoes along with great butcher meat from the farm and bedding & veggie plants.

With a forecast of a clear day our stall holders will be out in full force with their great seasonal products, pick up a rosemary & butternut squash focaccia or walnut spiked spelt sourdough from Alexander Taylor’s Bakery, a made to order Rice n Spicy Punjab curry, Thorntonhall  banana & butterscotch ice cream, an unusual ale from Alesela, Old Spot Pork joints, ribs for the barbeque and sausages from Lochbyre Rare Breed Meat or a delicious free range guinea fowl from St Bride’s Poultry. Hamilton Farmers’ Market this Saturday 18th May, Top Cross, opposite Bairds from 9 till 1pm

overton strawbsThis Saturday we are back in our usual spot at Hamilton Top Cross and even though the weather hasn’t been very Spring like we are pleased to say that the Clyde Valley Tomatoes and Strawberries are here! So come along for the first taste of summer, not only will we have the first of the fresh fruit but our regulars will be there with fresh & smoked fish from Fencebay, Carmichael Estate Farm Meats with home bred lamb, beef and venison, St Bride’s Poultry with both chicken and guinea fowl, Lochbyre Farm Meat with delicious Old Spot Pork and Shetland lamb, Overton Farm & Butchery with their own beef, lamb, mutton, & Clyde Valley veal, Gordon with his fab cheese selection, Rice n Spicy Punjab ready meals, Alexander  Taylor with their usual selection of great breads and pastries as well as this months special of Rosemary & Butternut Squash focaccia, and Caurnie Soap with their natural scented toiletries.

Strathaven Farmers’ Market

fish manThis Saturday 11th May, Strathaven Farmers’ Market returns to the Common Green Car Park from 9 till 1pm. With 12 stalls brimming with local produce fresh from the farms, this month sees the arrival of the Clyde Valley tomatoes and strawberries with the usual great choice of meats venison, pork,lamb, beef, veal, chicken and guinea fowl the fish stall will also be back with great fresh shellfish & filleted fish, last month saw razor clams, crabs and live langoustines. There are also some great prepared products for those looking for a quality ready meal. The market will return in July as there is no market in June as it clashes with Gala Day celebrations.

Overton Farmers Market & Clyde Valley Blossom Day Saturday 4th May 9 till 2pm, Crossford, Clyde Valley

turnipJoin us this Saturday for a celebration of the tradition of growing in the Clyde Valley. This weekend we will be hosting Blossom Day which focuses on growing your own produce, alongside our regular market there will be 16 stalls with information on growing produce, planting, composting, birds and wild life. There will be live music from band Teribus, Farmer Popper’s Farm Walk, Lunch with the Farmers’ Market and Clyde & Avon Valley Partnership Historic & Blossom walk.

There’s loads for kids with face painting, toy tractors, pony rides & planting activity tables, we will also be announcing the winner of the schools’ vegetable plot design winners.

We’re really looking forward to Saturday, the weather is looking good and we have the new fresh fish stall and guest stalls from Clyde Valley Tomatoes who you may have seen on The One Show last week, Thorntonhall ice cream and Threepwood Fayre hand made confectionery.

Clarkston Farmers’ Market this Saturday 27th April, 9 till 1pm, Station Car Park

Ice%20Cream%20Mar12%20(10)This Saturday it’s Clarkston market time and this month we are joined by a new stall, Blackmuir Dogs who will be bringing some natural dog treats for our ‘best friends’, Blackmuir Dogs also offer training courses for your pooch and we’re sure they’ll offer some advice on what’s available.

Micki from Thorntonhall is extremely busy just now concocting some superb new flavours to get us through the long hot summer, this Saturday she has promised such delights as Elderflower Liqueur, Pear & Ginger and Lemon Curd Ice Creams, sounds delicious. Thorntonhall have entered The Sunday Mail Golden Cone Awards and would love their Clarkston followers to vote for their favourite flavour at http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle/competitions/the-golden-cone-awards-1819768, I’m sure Micki would be over the moon if you voted for her.

bread 3We’re looking forward to some much awaited good weather which has been promised for this weekend! Come along this Saturday and pick up some great local food direct from the producer. It’s National Bread Week so why not rise to the occasion, & spend some dough on some of the best bread around at Alexander Taylor’s Bakery, there’s no shortage of something to top it with so use your loaf and come up with your own ideas, Gordon will have a fine selection of cheese & some hand made butter or maybe some sausages from Overton Farm, venison rashers from Carmichael Estate meats or smoked trout pate from Fencebay.
Look out for May’s Vogue Magazine, Caurnie Soap is featured in the natural section, wow!

aleselaWe’re back in Strathaven this week and finishing the Spring holiday with some fun for the kids with an Easter egg hunt around the stalls. We’re looking forward to introducing our new stall holder all the way from Scrabster with some great fresh fish, Alesela with a selection of artisan beers produced by microbreweries around Scotland a must for anyone looking for some unique tasting beers. You can pick up some great local produce from our regular stall holders including jams & chutney from Perthshire Preserves, Overton Farm with home grown tatties & root veg, Clyde Valley veal, mutton, beef & lamb, Carmichael Estate who breed, rear and prepare all their lamb, beef and venison on their Estate near Biggar, Taylor’s Bakery & St Bride’s Poultry both from Strathaven, Lochbyre Rare Breed Meat with Old Spot Pork joints that have the best crackling ever & Shetland lamb, hand made confectionery from Crymble & Threepwood Fayre who also has a great selection of cheese. Overton Farmers’ Market this Saturday 6th April 9 till 1pm, Crossford, Clyde Valley

fish manIt’s April and we’ve a spring in our step at Lanarkshire Farmers’Market, so to celebrate the Easter holidays we will have a Market Chocolate Hunt, kids are invited to follow the clues to find some chocolate treats. Joining us this month are ‘Arts & Crafts in the Clyde Valley’ who are holding a free drop in arts & crafts workshop, there is fun for both adults & kids with face painting and felt making for adults. Arthur our resident market pony will be available for rides around the field along with our kids play area.

Our usual stall holders will be there for some great food, Alexander Taylor’s Bakery, Rice n Spicy Punjab recipe meals, Carmichael Estate Farm Meats, St Bride’s Poultry, Lochbyre Rare Breed Meat, Overton Farm & Butchery & Caurnie Soap, we’re also very excited this week as we have a new stall planning to come along all the way from Scrabster Harbour with fresh fish.

Next month we are hosting ‘Clyde Valley Blossom Day – Spring into Grow Your Own Day’ information will be available on Saturday along with tickets for both next months ‘Farm Walk’ and ‘LFML Market Restaurant with Scott Baxter’.

Clarkston Farmers’ Market this Saturday 23rd March, 9 till 1pm Station Car Park

turnipThis month Lanarkshire Farmers’ Market returns to Clarkston Station Car Park so with Easter not far away there will be plenty of Easter treats and spring recipe ideas. We will be holding the final round of our Home Made soup competition, we’ve had some terrific soups already and hoping for some exciting tastes this weekend. If you want to join in then bring along your soup either hot in a flask or in a microwavable container by 10.30am on Saturday morning.

We have plenty of stalls, Arran Cheese & The Wee Fudge are both back this month and Nicola returns with her hand made range of chocolate letters and numbers, she will also have some special Easter eggs.

We’re back in Hamilton this Saturday for our regular farmers’ market. Along with some great local produce we are holding our 3rd heat of our Home Made Soup Competition, if you’d like to join in then please bring your soup either warm in a flask or in a microwavable container along at 10.30am for judging so far we’ve had some great entries with Cock a Leekie Soup being voted the best at Strathaven although the Squash & Chic Pea was also a triumph.

This Saturday you once again have the opportunity to buy direct from the producer whether it be Old Spot Pork joints, sausages or a hand raised pork pie from Lochbyre Rare Breed Meats, sourdough or traditional breads and the best ever hot cross buns from Alexander Taylor’s Bakery, Overton Farm home grown veggies and Clyde Valley veal, mutton, beef & lamb, St Bride’s Free Range Poultry delicious chickens, pies & quiche, Carmichael Estate Meats with venison, lamb and 21 day aged Limousine beef. For those who prefer to pick up a ready meal than look no further than Rice & Spicy with wonderful curries made to healthy authentic recipes, the Stornoway Black Pudding pakora is a firm favourite. Plenty of fresh and smoked fish will be available from Fencebay along with their fish pates and Cullen Skink. Perthshire Preserves have just won an a commendation from the World Marmalade Awards, so pick up some delicious Seville Marmalade while stocks last and Caurnie Soap have their natural range of just the best smelling soaps.
